Rifugio's was delicious! We sat at the bar and had a great beer and chicken fettuccine. I would definitely stop here for lunch or dinner on your drive up or down Mt. Baker.

Great dinner in a very warm and friendly environment. Went with our 10 month old son and he really enjoyed the food too. Server was very friendly and attentive. The owner is a friendly guy who kept... checking in with us and was chatty. Overall a very nice dinner after a great day sking at Baker.read more

First time visiting. The lamb chops and brussel sprout casserole were excellent. No salad or bread is offered with the meal though.

I feel like I've been keeping this place a secret for too long. It's the kind of place you want to tell everyone about because the food and vibe are 5 star, but it's a small place so you don't want... the world to descend on it and not be able to get a table! Selfish, I know.We love to brunch here. My daughter always gets the breakfast carbonara and I love the Twin Sisters, poached eggs on potato cakes with Richard's riff on a hollandaise.Their coffee is fantastic, so if you're driving by and don't have time to go in, you can order coffee and fresh donut holes at the window.read more

We chose to visit Rifugios for our 10th Anniversary dinner. The food was pretty good but the service was a little to be desired. We had to ask for water after watching all other customers receive... theirs first off. We were talked out of an appetizer ( bread, oil, balsamic)that we definitely had room for. Bread is ala carte, it isn’t offered with your meal. We were pretty much ignored after we got our dinner plates. I wanted another drink but didn’t want to ask for something else, which isn’t my job as the customer. However the goat cheese bruschetta was AMAZING! Kale Caesar simply done but very good. My tuna was very nicley done (seared) but was served with fried jo jo style potatoes? My husbands favorite food is lasagna. Their lasagna is pretty good but served in a crock, which was fine but should’ve been offered a spoon on the side because eating out of a bowl with a fork doesn’t always work well. We had the cheesecake and shared a very yummy espresso for dessert. We appreciated the garden fresh produce used and the dining room was smartly done. The price point was pretty spot on. Not overpriced or under for the quality of food. Presentation was nice. The log sections between the bar and dining room was a great touch! We had heard about this place a few years ago and had been waiting for a chance to go. We drove 2 hours to have a special dinner here and had made a reservation. We enjoyed our meal but were not blown away by the service. Might be back if we are up that way to play in the forest but won’t make a special trip again. If you live around there though try it out! Get the bruschetta!read more

A true Rifugio!Artfully displayed seasonal bounty and locally roasted coffee press coffee warmed us upon arrival and the owner/chef/artist/server is clearly passionate about everything there.Tea... and Wine available as well.Next time!Both Pasta dishes were delicious!We will make a special trip whenever we make an excuse to.Thursday-SundayAccommodations for large parties as well.read more

We ate here for dinner service and really recommend this place. The ambiance is great and prices are reasonable for the quality of food and level of service.My wife had the linguini and meatballs.... The pasta was perfect al dente, and the three big meatballs were very flavorful.I had the meat special of veal chop, brussel sprouts and polenta. Again everything was technically executed but my steak had too much salt and garlic on it. I love salty food and garlic so the first half of the steak tasted amazing but then it started to become overwhelming by the time I was done. The chef seemed to be educating some new cooks so maybe it was a one off issue. The brussel sprouts and polenta were perfect.We'll be back on another trip to Mt Baker.read more

Talk about the epic hole in the wall place. Rumors are true if you find one then you will get GREAT food this place proves that rumor. If you find yourself going to Mount Baker it’s worth the stop.

The best food on 542E. Great food and lots of character (mostly the owner/waiter/chef!). This little rustic restaurant tucked away between 542E and the Nooksack River is a diamond in the ruff. Be... ready for a small menu that often has sold out items. Be ready for a wait staff of one (owner/operator). Be ready for the slow pace of the countryside. But also be ready for some seriously delicious Italian food made with lots of love and continuous creativity. The owner is an absolute sweetheart and a man with a great passion for serving excellent food to any and all who come visit. We've been going here for years and years and it's never the same menu for long but always the same great experience.read more

On our way home after going to Mt. Baker we stopped at Refugio Country Italian Food. The food, atmosphere, and service was all top notch. I had lasagna, Diana had the meatloaf. Both were excellent.... The owner, Richard, was out waiter. We had a great time there and will go again.read more

Al fresco dining in a lovely mountain setting was wonderful. Good was rustic & delicious. Other patrons, apparently regulars, were very friendly. Be prepared to relax; it isn't fast food.

My husband and I are in the Glacier, WA area for a weekend getaway and found Rifugio's on Google. This italian restaurant is wonderful! The moment you enter this small charming place you feel... welcome. The owner sat us and waited on us while we were there. He was able to explain the nights dinner menu and suggest some dishes. The chicken fettuccine alfredo and white sauce chicken Lasagna were heavenly! I would definitely eat here again if we are in the Deming area.read more

Super great food, and you can tell the chef really loves what he does! He changes the menu pretty frequently based off of what's in season, it's small and focused on good dishes, and he even collects... some of the ingredients himself!The area is very neat too, there are art installations nearby for you to look at while you wait for your food, and the inside of the restaurant is beautiful for when it's open again. It is a little pricey, but for what you get I would say it's worth it. Plus you support someone who is very passionate about what they do!Definitely a good place to check out.read more

We had the most enchanting evening as the only guests at Rifugio’s. Richard, the owner and chef, is clearly dedicated to his craft. He was passionate, warm, and made us feel at home which is saying a... lot given The current times. We felt safe - masks when he came to the table, the only guests, etc. the food was unreal. Every dish was executed perfectly. My favorites were the homemade bread and oil and the lamb ragù enough. Topped off with a bottle of Italian red — we were transported for a couple of hours to the old days of dinners out, only better. Total satisfaction. Huge thanks to Richard for making our weekend.read more

We have stopped at this restaurant every time we come up by Mount Baker. Richard is an amazingly talented chef. Veteran chef tending a small family style kitchen with awesome natural wooden tables and displays. Food was excellent. Mom had the meatloaf and I, a picky eater, ordered plain ol noodles and tomato... sauce. Best plain noodles and tomato sauce I'll ever eat. Noodles were homemade and tasted like they were made yesterday.read more
